Insider Insight: Kitchen storage solutions

We might not be able to revamp your kitchen for you, but we've done the next best thing. In this guide, you'll find some of the best kitchen storage organizers on the market. And we've added expert organization ideas and tips from Marie Kondo to make your job easier — so keep reading to get inspired.

Give everything a designated place

"When tidying, it's important to organize items by having designated places for them," says organizing consultant, author, and TV show host Marie Kondo. "So when choosing a storage organizer for your kitchen, think about the items you want to store for that designated area."

"In my kitchen," continues Kondo, "I have a rule that whether I'm opening a drawer or gazing in my pantry shelf, I have to be able to see everything in space at a quick glance. Storing items vertically makes it easiest to browse and find items. These tips are helpful to keep in mind when selecting storage solutions that will help your kitchen feel tidy."

Get the right storage options

Kitchen organization is all about functionality, efficiency, and convenience. Organizers and storage containers can improve almost every aspect of your kitchen. Here are some of the different organizations and storage options you might need:

  • Cabinet organizers to corral pots and pans, dishes, cups, mugs, spices, cleaning supplies, and other random items.

  • Pantry organizers make finding dry goods, canned foods, food storage containers, and other foodstuffs easier.

  • Kitchen drawer organizers and utensil holders to keep silverware, knives, napkins, and other small items in order.

  • Sink organizers like a cleaning caddy to organize sponges, scrubbers, soap dispensers, or a drying rack for hand-washed dishes.

  • Countertop organizers like paper towel holders, knife blocks, cookbooks, and utensils in order.

  • Refrigerator organizers such as pull-out drawers and condiment storage dividers.

The list could go on, but you get the idea. You'll need several different types of kitchen organizers. And for countertop organizers, you'll probably want things that are more aesthetically pleasing since they're readily visible.

"It depends on how your kitchen is set up in terms of drawers, cupboards, and open shelving," says Kondo. "If you have all drawers, then look for organizers that divide them into smaller sections to cut down on clutter. If you have a lot of cupboard space or a deep pantry, look at multi-tier organizers to ensure nothing gets lost in the back."
